Stroud Charity Cup

Taverners Reserves 1 Poulton 4

POULTON comfortably won matches in two cup competitions over the weekend, scoring ten goals in the process.

The 4-1 Sunday victory over Taverners Reserves in Nailsworth was a personal triumph for top scorer Dean Woolgar, who put away the first two Poulton goals and made the other two for Dan Read.

Woolgar, man of the match by some distance, scored his first after 20 minutes and then made it 2-0 five minutes later.

His pin-point cross left Dan a simple task to make it 3-0 with a header after 40 minutes which virtually settled the issue.

Taverners, who had a good share of the play in the first half, made a great start to the second period and pulled one back just two minutes in through Harrison Parker.

They continued to have a lot of the game but were unable to add to their score, and Read made it 4-1 from another superb Woolgar cross with five minutes remaining.

Poulton are at home to Stonehouse Town Reserves in their other group match on October 25.

Poulton 6 Cheltenham Civil Service A 1

POULTON gained an emphatic win in Saturday's County Cup clash with Cheltenham, who had as much of the play as the home side in the evenly-fought first half.

Luke Richards scored the opener when he raced through after ten minutes and made it 2-0 for Poulton near the interval.

Cheltenham had no luck during this period but Poulton took command after the break and Steve Andrews made it 3-0 ten minutes in. Blain Barker-Close scored a fourth goal five minutes later and Andrews was on the mark again to put the game beyond reach of the Cheltenham team.

Wayne Hardman eventually pulled one back with five minutes remaining, but despite sterling work throughout by defender Nick Driscoll they were unable to prevent Dean Woolgar making it six in the last minute.
