DARE-DEVILS from Age UK Gloucestershire faced their fears and abseiled from the top of the Ecotricity building in the centre of Stroud.

Age UK Gloucestershire staff, volunteers and members of their own families took part to raise more than £1,000 for the charity over the weekend of September 19 and 20.

Local charities The Door youth project, Crossroads Care, The Nelson Trust and The MS Society also took part.

Age UK Gloucestershire Chief Executive, Rob Fountain said: “Although I managed a parachute jump some years ago, this was my first shot at abseiling and I admit I was rather nervous.

“I’m very proud of everyone who took part and we’ve had great support from people who have offered sponsorship and come along today to watch us overcome our fears.

“We even have one of our older volunteers taking part which just proves that it’s never too late to set yourself a challenge and try something new.

“At Age UK Gloucestershire we promote loving later life but many older people just need help to make that happen.

“Our services allow more people to remain independent at home and continue to live a full life.”
