ORGANISERS of this year's Painswick Midsummer Ball are celebrating the success of their fundraising auction for local charity The Door Youth Project by handing over a cheque for £5,000.

"The auction was one of the main events of the evening,” said Ball organiser David Nottingham.

"We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our guests and bidding was fast and furious with lots such as Gatcombe tickets, donated by Hamptons reached hundreds of pounds.

“The ball was a huge success with over 300 people coming and lots of support from local businesses, in particular The Falcon Inn and Richmond Village Painswick.

“We would also like to thank Wesleyan Assurance for their kind donation which helped us reach £5,000."

The Ball takes place every other year and is a social highlight for Painswick.

This year, with a new organising committee, the Ball that takes place at Painswick RFC had a midsummer theme with twenty foot trees inside the marquee decorated with fairy lights creating a magical glade.

Guests danced into the small hours to live music from local band Mango Jam and Ibiza DJ DRP.

Barrie Voyce, chief executive of The Door Youth Project commented: "The generosity of the guests at the Ball was amazing, and we want to extend a big thank you to everyone involved.

“The money raised will go towards supporting young people and families across the Stroud District, and in particular in our Stroud Drop-In Centre - where young people can find a safe space and a friendly ear from one of our fantastic youth workers.

“Whether that be helping them overcome issues at home or school, or more focused support in finding a job or choosing a healthier lifestyle, the team at The Door is always ready to help young people help themselves."
