NAILSWORTH now has a brand new children’s play park thanks to the hard work of a community group of local volunteers.

The Tynings Residents Association is celebrating after the instalment of the play area in the park off Dark Lane, which includes swings, climbing frame, seesaws and all the usual fun.

They will hold a grand opening event between noon and 4pm on Sunday October 11, which will include cheerleaders, stalls, bouncy castle and face fainting.

The nine-strong group of Nailsworth residents worked for a year to raise £5,000, with the other £25,000 coming in the form of a grant from Stroud District Council (SDC).

Jackie Durn, a member of the association who lives on Churchill Road, said her eight-year-old son already loved having a new space to play.

“We’re so happy Nailsworth now has a park designed for smaller children to use safely – we’ve seen so many benefits already.

“It’s been a real community effort and we’re so thankful to the council for their grant.”

She said the new park is a ‘family oriented’ space, with plenty of seating and places to play.

The fundraising doesn’t stop there however, with plans in place to create a gardening area for children to use to grow their own plants.
