The accident happened at around 8.30am near Ryeford Road by the industrial estate.
It caused severe delays, with lengthy tailbacks affecting other routes into Stroud during early morning traffic.
No one was seriously hurt but some people suffered minor injuries.
The cars involved were a Ford Focus, a Toyota Yaris, a Vauxhall Zafira and a Vauxhall Astra.
They have all been recovered and traffic is now flowing freely.
