Wiltshire Junior Cup 2nd Rnd

Ashton Keynes 3 Avtar Construction 2

ASHTON KEYNES came through a county cup tie against a well-drilled and very physical Avtar Construction side – but needed extra time to win 3-2.

It was a great victory win for Ashton as Avtar are unbeaten this season in the Swindon Premier League and their only defeat last season came in the semi final of this competition.

Avtar took the lead in the first half when the hosts wanted too much time to clear the ball.

Ashton responded well, and after several top class saves by the visiting goalkeeper – including an unbelievable effort to claw out a Rich Sutton header from the top corner – debutant Dan Lye saw his inviting corner put into the net by an Avtar player.

Just before half-time Avtar went ahead again after a slick passing move.

But 15 minutes into the second half Alex King broke through and showed excellent composure to level the game at 2-2 with a dinked finish.

The remainder of the 90 minutes was notable only for the heavy Avtar challenges as the game drifted to extra time.

With just two minutes left before penalties, and with the light fading, King found himself in space and again showed great composure to curl the ball round the keeper and in.

Avatar's frustration spilled over late on as one of their players was sent off for repeatedly punching an Ashton player.
