THE Corinium Museum is inviting pupils from a school to become curators on Wednesday.

The event is part of the annual Takeover Day endorsed by the Children’s Commissioner and Kids in Museums.

Pupils from Chesterton Primary School will be exploring Anglo-Saxons with the Corinium Museum team and will write their own labels for display in the museum galleries.

A spokesman for the Cotwold District Council, which runs the museum, Bob McNally, said:  “Many of the Anglo-Saxon finds were discovered at nearby Butler’s Field in Lechlade some 30 years ago this year, so it is fitting that children from a local school will be using this collection as their inspiration for Takeover Day 2015.”

Takeover Day is a national celebration of children and young people’s contributions to museums, galleries, arts organisations, archives and heritage sites.

It is a day on which they are given meaningful roles, working alongside staff and volunteers to participate in the life of the museum.

The Corinium Museum tells the story of archaeology across the Cotswolds with an emphasis on discoveries from Roman Corinium.
