IT IS fair to say that I left the County Ground on Saturday feeling cold, wet and bitterly disappointed.

My beloved Scunthorpe have been on a great run of form recently. Five wins from seven games has helped The Iron rise like a phoenix from the flames.

In a short period the team has climbed from the lower reaches of the table to the edge of the play-off zone. So considering Swindon had not managed a win since early September this game looked like a guaranteed three points for Scunny.

So what went wrong? The Iron started brightly and looked comfortable for most of the game but never capitalised on the possession they enjoyed.

Although Scunthorpe held a solid shape they lacked impetus in the final third and failed to convert countless chances.

And for four minutes in the second half the team switched off and allowed Swindon to snatch two goals completely against the run of play.

The poor conditions hampered The Iron’s ability to play the slick, attractive football they have been exhibiting of late, but Swindon’s defensive frailties were plain to see and they should still have been an easy side to beat.

It was a frustrating afternoon for Scunthorpe against a poor Swindon Town team who looked off the pace and never really threatened the Iron’s back line.

The home fans will be relieved to get three points on the board but Martin Ling has still got a lot of work to do if he is to drag the team away from the relegation mire, while Scunthorpe must beat struggling teams like Swindon if their play-off aspirations are to be realised.
