A CYCLIST is fighting for his life after his bike was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall van near Painswick yesterday evening.

Police issued an urgent appeal for help to identify the man who has been taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with life threatening injuries.

After the appeal was shared more than 2,000 times on Facebook, police now believe they have identified the man with the help of the public.

Officers are now trying to contact the man's family.

The incident happened on the A46 as the cyclist was heading in the direction of Cranham.

He was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall van travelling the same way.

He had no identification on him so police were trying to trace his next of kin.

The man is described as white, 5ft 10ins tall, of average build, with dark hair, in his forties, and riding a blue Dakar Lion mountain bike.

Anyone with information can call 101 and quote incident 352 of November 17.

The driver of the Vauxhall was not injured.
