WHO’D have thought some street art of a pair of koala bears would illicit such passion from a small, rural market town.

Malmesbury is not known in the south west for its sprawling graffiti and underground culture, however a mural on the side of a local nursery has ignited the community.

The artwork created by the local street artist known as Syd, has been brightening residents' commutes since it was created in August.

Unfortunately a solitary person has complained to Wiltshire Council that it represents advertising, and so, the nursery have been told to get a permit for it, or lose it.

The first question that springs to mind is, why is the council even entertaining this complaint? It’s not an advert and anyone with half decent vision can see that. Are all complaints taken as gospel now?

What is also staggering is that one person complains about a mural, and it must be taken down. However, if hundreds of people turn out in opposition to the closure of a children’s centre, their views are simply “taken into account”.

When did the tyranny of the minority start dictating local policy?

Residents want it to stay, the nursery wants it to stay, and above all, the children want it to stay, so let’s not let one person spoil the town’s fun. Here’s hoping the council listen to the hundreds of people who have signed the petition and let this one slide.
