A MYSTERIOUS, green-faced Earthman will join campaigners on the streets of Stroud on Saturday.

People will take to Stroud High Street ahead of the Paris climate marches this month to call for a meaningful global deal to limit greenhouse gas emissions.

World leaders will meet in the French capital late this month in an attempt to sign up to a legally binding deal to stop global warming.

‘Earthman’ will be on hand to appeal to people to help save his home, which is being destroyed due to human carbon dioxide emissions.

Stroud residents are invited to help to draw a chalk red line on the ground to show that people together can take action to encourage governments to make practical and lasting decision on climate change policy.

There will also be a chance to write a letter to world leaders that a Stroud cyclist will be taking on the carbon cycle ride to Paris in December.

These messages from Stroud residents will be uploaded and projected during the UN climate talks.

There will also be a GlosCAN (Gloucestershire Climate Action Network) stall in High Street with information about the Paris COP21 climate talks.

“The conflicts, violence and flow of refugees in the world are partly caused by lack of rainfall which is an effect of climate change,” said GlosCAN’s Vaughan Webber.

“The peaceful and fair resolution of conflicts requires a global deal on carbon emissions, energy, and funding to help poor countries.

“Politicians need to be told to do what is in the interests of the planet and a peaceful future.”

The event will be held on Stroud High Street at 11am to 2pm on Saturday November 28.
