STROUD residents are being encouraged to join the world’s biggest and most historic climate march.

Participants will joins tens of thousands of others campaigners marching on the streets of London this weekend to demand a clear and legally binding deal on climate change.

World leaders are due to gather in Paris for crunch UN climate change talks to thrash out a new deal on limiting greenhouse gas emissions post-2020.

The event in London is the largest of over two thousand similar marches taking place in more than 2000 locations in 150 countries across the world.

Green district councillor John Marjoram has organised three coaches to leave from Stroud.

“We started off with just one coach but the popularity has been so high I’ve had to charter another two,” he said.

“We’ve seen people of all ages, groups and political parties sign up to join us in London.

“It will be an important chance to work together to create a unified voice in London and across the globe to call for real action on climate change.”

Notable speakers at London’s march will include designer Vivienne Westwood, actor Vanessa Redgrave and musicians Charlotte Church, Peter Gabriel and Kate Tempest.

Coaches will be leaving the Stroud Leisure Centre car park off Stratford Park Stratford Road at 8.30am, a return at 4pm. Information and maps will provided on the coach.
