BURGLARS broke into a home in Frocester and stole jewellery last week.

Police were called to the home in Leonard Stanley Road on Friday, November 20.

The householder returned home just after 5pm to find the house burgled.

Police have today issued a warning, reminding people not to be complacent about burglary.

As part of Operation Switch, an initiative by Gloucestershire Constabulary to encourage everyone to make their streets safer, burglary prevention advice is being emphasised for homeowners to follow.

•    Ensure your house looks occupied by keeping a light on from dusk throughout the evening using light timer devices.
•    Set a burglar alarm before going out.
•    Lock all of your doors and windows and lock away any tools or ladders which offenders could use to gain entry to your property.
•    Invest in security lights which illuminate the outside of your home and make sure all side gates are locked and secure.
•    Laying noisy, crunchy gravel around pathways to the property is also a good idea.
•    Remove keys from internal doors and keep them out of sight.

Residents are also encouraged to join a local Neighbourhood Watch group.

The aim of this movement is to bring neighbours together to create strong, friendly, active communities where crime, such as burglary, is less likely to happen.
