ART work has been unveiled at Park Junior School to celebrate the life of a much-loved teacher who lost her battle with cancer two years ago.

Well-known Lynne Gasser was a Year 6 teacher who served at the school in Stonehouse for 27 years.

She passed away in August, 2013, aged 51.

Paintings and collages of butterflies and water lilies, made by pupils with author and artist Tracy Spiers, are now adorning the school walls in memory of Lynne.

Pupils from each class also made a butterfly motif which is on display in the school's reception area.

The art work was unveiled at a coffee morning held at the school in Stonehouse to raise money for the Longfield hospice, where staff looked after Lynne after she was diagnosed with cancer.

"Art was a real passion in Lynne's life and this seems like a fitting way to remember her," said Lynne's husband and head teacher of Park Junior School Mr Richard Gasser.

"Teaching was the only job Lynne ever did.

"She loved being around children and poured all of her love and enthusiasm into her work."

Children at the school have also been making and selling badges badges to raise money for Minchinhampton based charity the Longfield hospice, which helps people with life-limiting illnesses.

Lynne, who had two children, taught a range of subjects with special responsibility for art, physical education and science.

She was also well-known for organising festivals at the school and encouraging young performers on the stage.

Mr Gasser added: "Lynne is fondly remembered and these colourful displays are a lovely way to ensure her memory lives on for many years to come at the school."
