THREE passengers have been taken to hospital with minor injuries after a crash involving a bus and a car in Stroud this morning.

The incident happened at around 11.45am as the two vehicles were rounding the corner at Rowcroft, opposite Lloyds Bank.

The front of the number 36 Cotswold Green bus to Kingscourt collided with the wall near the railway bridge, blocking off the door.

More than five passengers and the driver himself had to exit the bus via the emergency escape door, while one disabled woman had to be evacuated by police.

Paramedics treated the driver and one other passenger for minor injuries at the scene.

A green Citroën Berlingo crashed into a metal pole, leaving the front left side of the car severely dented.

The back window was also smashed, leaving shattered glass littered on the street.

Stroud News and Journal:

Eye witness Jules Falshaw was the fastest to react and called the police.

“It was horrific,” she said. “It looked like both vehicles swerved to avoid each other and crashed into either side of the road. The smashing noise was so loud you could hear it from round the corner.

Three police cars and an ambulance attended the scene and cordoned off the road around 11.50am.

The bus was cleared around 2.45pm.

A police spokesman said: “Both drivers were breathalysed and tested negative, and no one was arrested.”

Police are currently investigating the incident and Rowcroft will remain closed for the next couple of hours.
