A SWIMMING pool on the back of a low loader trailer blocked tight roads in Miserden on Wednesday, January 13.

Residents in the area told the SNJ that the pool had been ordered by Man Booker prize-winner Ian McEwan who lives near the village.

Mr McEwan is an acclaimed author and screenwriter probably best known for his novel Atonement.

Ben Preston, 20, a barman at The Carpenters Arms, said: “It came through and got stuck at Wishhanger, which is quite a steep and tight through road.

“They had to lower the truck to get it through as it got stuck on a tree.”

A driver, who got held-up behind the lorry, said: “I was on my way home from work and had to wait at the cross roads at the bottom of The Camp, whilst this huge lorry tried to make its way through Wishanger, a tiny hamlet where I live.

“It barely made it through, width wise, but the driver did really well to negotiate the narrow lane.

“He also had to lower the whole lorry to get it to fit under the branches of the tree.”
