MEMBERS of The Wednesday Club will meet again today at The Retreat wine bar in Stroud.

The group meets weekly at 2pm for a chat and drinks at the bar in Church Street.

It was launched in response to research that showed almost 7,000 retired people live alone in the district.

SNJ reporter Megan Titley and The Retreat owner Ian Morrison will be there to welcome you and introduce you to other club members.

The club is an excuse to get out of the house, meet new people and have a drink. For more details, call Megan on 01453 769423 or email mti@stroudnewsandjournal.co.uk.

Meanwhile village and community agents have started hosting a drop-in surgery in Stroud Library on the third Thursday of each month.

Anne Robinson, community agent for Stroud, or Angela King, village agent for Cainscross, Randwick, Whiteshill and Ruscombe, Rodborough, Thrupp and Chalford, will be available to discuss the service offered to people over the age of 50.

The next one will be on Thursday, February 18, between 10.30am and 12.30pm. It was set up in 2007 to provide a signposting and support service for older people to access community, statutory and other voluntary agencies.
