MOTORISTS are being warned of possible disruption tomorrow following forecasts of high winds and heavy rain.

Highways England has issued a severe weather alert for drivers of high-sided vehicles, caravans and motorbikes.

Gales of up to 70mph are expected to batter Gloucestershire tomorrow, with heavy showers also forecast.

The Met Office has also issued a severe warning of high winds.

A spokesman said: "An area of very strong winds are expected to extend east across much of southern England on Monday morning.

"Gusts of 60-70 mph are likely quite widely, with 80mph gusts likely in exposed coastal areas.

"Winds should gradually ease through the afternoon and evening.

"Please be aware of the potential for disruption to travel as well as possible damage to trees and structures and interruption of power supplies."

Drivers are advised to plan for their journey before they set out, checking the forecast and road conditions and to leave extra time if travel conditions are poor, and to delay their journey if the weather becomes severe.
