A TEENAGER from Stroud who trekked an incredible 2,663 miles across the North American continent has updated his grand total raised in sponsorship money.

Last summer 19-year-old Kyran Young became one of the youngest people ever to complete the Pacific Crest Trail in the USA.

Passing through 25 national forests, seven national parks, and countless mountain ranges he walked from the arid deserts at the border of Mexico to the freezing snow-capped mountains of Canada.

The entire journey took him four and a half months to complete. He crossed the finish line at the Canadian border on October 5.

During his epic hike sponsorship money came in thick and fast from friends, family, businesses and complete strangers alike.

And now thanks to further donations he has now managed to raise a grant total of £17,569 for a cause very close to his heart – the Gorilla Organisation.

He posted on Facebook: “After finishing my 2663 mile walk quite a few months ago now some great hearted individuals have carried on striving on the raising money.

“Now £17,569 has been raised, that’s nearly $25,000 and quite a lot more than my original goal of £10,000.

“So thank to you for the continued support and for carrying on the journey.”

The money raised will go to the conservation and research charity which works to protect and preserve species of gorillas across Africa.

Famous conservationist and biologist from Stroud Ian Redmond of The Gorilla Organization was Kyran’s source of inspiration.

He took to social media to praise the teen’s incredible efforts, writing: “Clearly your heroic effort for the gorillas did not go unnoticed, Kyran. Fantastic result.

“Thank you on behalf of The Gorilla Organization and the gorillas.”
