VANDALS wreaked havoc when they struck at an outdoor swimming pool in Lydney over the weekend.

The incident happened at Bathurst Pool in Lydney High Street between 5pm on Friday February 5 and 10am on Sunday February 7.

Unknown offenders broke into the open air pool, which is run by a charity and currently closed for winter, before smashing various items including guttering, wooden tables and chairs and throwing them into the pool.

Several storerooms were also forced open and tiles and piping taken and dropped around the site.

The pool was covered but the cover was dislodged when the items were thrown into the pool.

The door to the men's changing room was also struck with an item.

The extent of the damage to the pool and site generally is still being assessed and it is unknown if anything was stolen.

PC Duncan Sleeman said: "What happened at the pool is appalling and something that could take a lot of money to repair.

"I think someone in the community is likely to know who did this and I would appeal to them to do the right thing and come forward straight away."
