LIGHT snow could fall in Stroud this weekend as temperatures fall.

High areas in the Cotswolds could see a dusting of the white stuff as a front comes in from the west, the Met Office said.

But any snow is expected to be light and is expected to give way to colder but drier conditions at the start of next week.

Forecasters expect Saturday to be cold with plenty of rain, but in the evening temperatures will drop to 2C or colder and snow is likely to fall for at least a few hours in parts of the Cotswolds.

A Met Office spokesman said it was mostly expecting 'cold rain' on Saturday but added: "Across some higher ground you may get some sleet and snow, so Dartmoor and maybe the Cotswolds, across the Welsh mountains, the Brecon Beacons, the Black Mountains and up to Snowdonia, and the high parts of the Midlands, Staffordshire, there may be some there as well."

A light snow shower is predicted over Stroud late on Sunday, at around midnight.

The cold snap comes days after Gloucestershire was hit by the strong winds of Storm Imogen.
