A DEEP pothole is posing a threat to drivers as they come into Stroud from the Tesco roundabout.

The pothole, which drivers only catch sight of at the last minute, is in the bus stop in Beeches Green opposite Beeches Green Health Centre.

The centre of the A46 is also lined with potholes heading away from town towards the Salmon Springs Trading Estate.

A member of the public contacted the SNJ after becoming concerned about the potholes, which have become worse due to the recent heavy rainfall.

Elsewhere in town, Westward Road also has potholes along the stretch from the Cainscross traffic lights towards Stroud District Council.

Daniel Tiffney, local highways manager at Gloucestershire County Council said: “The A46 is inspected monthly and the stretch between Stroud and Gloucester is in our forward programme to be resurfaced, but we potentially have some land stabilisation work to carry out first.

“We’re keeping an eye on two areas in particular near the turnings for Wades Lane and Pincot Lane, close to the Pitchcombe junction.

“We need to monitor how much movement there is at these locations and understand why it is happening so that we can plan the right repairs.

“In the meantime some patching work will take place this year, and we continue to fix the most dangerous potholes within 24 hours and others within 28 days.”
