A GROUP of residents and councillors have suggested imposing a 20mph speed limit in Nailsworth.

The A46 Action Group’s proposal would see the speed limit enforced across the entire town, as well as changes to traffic flow and road signs.

These suggestions are aimed at improving traffic in the area for the benefit of the entire community.

County councillor Dorcas Binns, district councillor Steve Robinson and Nailsworth town councillor Jonathan Duckworth said in a joint statement: “We hope to make our town a place that puts people first, not cars.”

Members of the team will be at the Nailsworth Farmers Market on Saturday, February 27 to display and explain the proposals and listen to feedback.

The action group was set up three years ago in response to public concern about speeding and the effect that traffic has on the community.

A public meeting was held in March 2013 and many worries were raised about traffic in the town.

A petition for a new pedestrian crossing at Dunkirk Mill received over 800 signatures, but Gloucestershire County Council decided to take no action on it.

The group then researched solutions from around the country and prepared the proposals.

Residents can view the plans at the Farmers Market on the February 27 and in the Town Information Centre afterwards.
