A WOMAN who was found with serious injuries on a riverbank near London Road in Stroud has sadly died.
The woman was taken to hospital after paramedics and police were called at around 7pm on Friday but she was pronounced dead at around 9.30pm.
Her next of kin have been informed.
The death is not being treated as suspicious.
A police spokesman said: "Several resources were deployed to the scene initially due to officers having difficulty locating the informant and injured woman.
"It happened on a river bank and not on an official pathway so the location wasn't precise.
"As the incident was in a public open space, it was imperative for officers to put a cordon in place as soon as possible to avoid passing members of the public being exposed to a distressing scene.
"We understand that a high police presence may cause alarm and raise questions within the local community, but we wish to stress that the response given to this incident was appropriate and proportionate at the time."
