AN AVID runner from Stroud is looking forward to her first ever London Marathon to raise money for cancer patients.

Tina Gomer, 46, from Cashes Green, has achieved a champion’s place for the 26-mile race this Sunday, April 24.

She has chosen to raise money for Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity in aid of FOCUS, the fund for users of Gloucestershire Oncology Centre.

“It is a charity that means quite a lot to me,” said Tina, who also runs Stroud Athletics Club.

“My mum passed away from cancer in 2010 so this cause that is quite close to my heart.

“Unfortunately I injured myself back in March during my training, so I am worried I might struggle if I have father problems with my hamstring or lower.

“I know there are going to be points where my body wants me to give up. So I visited the Oncology Centre last week to remind myself why I’m doing this.

“It’s a fantastic cause to be running for and I am determined to finish. My family have been so supportive so I’m doing it for them too.”

Despite her injuries, Tina has been doing a range of distance training on static bikes and cross trainers over the past few weeks to prepare.

So far she has raised £420 for her chosen charity.
