SPRING is here and so the rescued turkeys at Phoenix Free Range have started laying eggs again and will be available at the market this Saturday.

Sarah runs the farm featured on Countryfile a few weeks ago and you can still catch it online on the BBC iPlayer.

Over at Days Cottage they have introduced small 33cl crown capped (traditional bottle tops) bottles of their cider and perry.

They have also reduced the alcohol level to a point (5.5 per cent) where it is possible to enjoy a bottle without being immediately over the limit.

The cider from the barrel is 7.5 per cent!

The new bottles are filled with gently sparkling cider or perry and will be perfect for a spring or summer evening.

This week Hobbs House launched their new Gluten Free Loaf.

The new loaf, aptly named GiFt has already won itself an award in the Britain’s Best Loaf Awards - Gluten Free Loaf of the Year.

Hobbs’ customers have been asking them to make one for ages so at the end of last year they built a dedicated gluten free bakery and after 39 batches they got it right.

This loaf is no compromise for Hobbs House Bakery, no it doesn’t taste like cardboard and no it isn’t packed full of a list of ingredients you would rather not eat.

Instead this loaf is full of the good stuff, made primarily from sorghum flour (a plant based flour) and teff flour (one of the world’s smallest gluten free grains) and loaded with fibrous seeds, chia seeds, flax seeds and with the addition of chickpea sourdough and nutritious psyllium husks this loaf is a great healthy alternative for everyone.

The loaf has been named GiFt for two reasons; it is their gift to you but primarily through this loaf they are able to give bread to children in Tanzania.

They have been working alongside the charity Ifakara Bakery Project.

Through a bakery set up in Ifakara, Tanzania, bread is donated to malnourished children.

Finally its all change on the organic vegetable aisle as Newark Farm disappear for six weeks and Hotch Potch return with vegetable plants and early tunnel crops from Alderton Nurseries.
