THE fastest driver at the Tetbury Wacky Races won by only a tenth of a second this year, results reveal.
On Monday, May 2, 29 karts and 35 drivers braved one of Tetbury’s steepest hills and its well-known hairpin bend in pouring weather.
It was a tight win for long-reigning champion Steve Thomas, of team C12, who won by only a tenth of a second ahead of runner-up driver Richard Burton, of Acceleramus.
Steve won with a time of 33.8 seconds this year, slightly behind his record of 29.6 seconds last year.
In third and fourth place were drivers of Tetbury Car Care’s Grease Monkey kart: Luke Miller and Lee Wright, who was dressed as a monkey.
In the junior category with seven teams, James Norris, of Dukes of Hazzard, was once again fastest junior driver with a time of 37.6 seconds. His record from last year was 34.3 seconds.
In second place for the junior category was Team Batman, driven by Jack Ticehurst, with a time of 42.4 seconds.
The most exciting award in the races, however, the wackiest design, was given to The Parry Clan with their waggon decorated with a blow up doll and two blow up horses.
Wacky Races director Stephen Parr, said: “It was marvellous stuff and since they’re five-time competitors, it’s nice to see them finally applauded for all their efforts.”
