A STUDENT from Stroud has won Cirencester Sixth Form College’s highest accolade at its annual awards ceremony.

Will Duggleby, a former Thomas Keble pupil, won the Cirencester Grammar School Memorial Trust Prize for Academic Excellence in recognition of his academic achievements.

Will left the College last summer with three grade A*s at A-level and is now studying Medicine at Cambridge University.

In his citation, which was read out at the ceremony, his lecturers said: “Will's maths teacher described him as simply the most intelligent student he has ever had the pleasure of teaching.

"He possessed all the attributes required of the highest achievers in the country: an enquiring mind, a completely independent approach to his learning and a willingness to challenge received ideas.

"His intelligence cut across all subjects – whilst maths was not even his favourite subject, his appreciation of its power, beauty and intellectual challenge was truly remarkable.”

Guest of honour Dame Fiona Reynolds presented the award to Will.

Dame Fiona was appointed Master of Emmanuel College, Cambridge in 2012 after her time Director General for the National Trust, a post she had held from 2001 to 2012.

Another former Thomas Keble student from Amberley, Sam Roberts, came away with two awards.

Sam was recognised for his talent in Electronics by winning The Science Faculty Prize for Electronics.

He was also part of the Young Enterprise team Soberdrive, who won the Ellisons Award for Enrichment.

Soberdrive won the Hyundai Skills for the Future European Final in Prague and Sam’s electronic skills were instrumental in the design of their life saving product, a breathalyzer incorporated within a car key.
