Leonard Stanley WI: With speaker Paul Evans

QUITE a full meeting, commencing with Maureen welcoming everyone with a special welcome to Brenda and to Claire, the latter who had recently undergone a large heart operation.

Birthday flowers were given to Madeline.

The funeral of Dorothy Clarke had been well attended and thanks was given to everyone who helped or contributed with the food which was excellent.

Naiomi, her niece had given our WI a cheque for £300 in memory of Dorothy, which was a lovely surprise and for which we are very grateful.

Gloucestershire News was read, with particular reference to the GFWI Christmas Concert when Laura Wright will perform – an excellent choice, also Federation Training Days and Croquet Taster Sessions.

Correspondence was covered by Jill, who gave details of Denman College discounted courses, mention was made of the request for members to donate £10 per head towards upkeep of Denman, and said to this end Frocester WI were holding a Garden Party to which all the Group WIs were invited.

Visit to the Synagogue needed a date for organization.

Our May lunch will be to Tortworth again, which has proved a popular choice with the beautiful setting.

On Saturday, May 14, there will be a sale of plants organised by Jill and Robert, with refreshments and a Bring and Buy Stall, plus raffle and helpers were required.

The money raised will go towards various charities.

A reminder that it is the Village Fete on July 9, and again the WI will be doing their ‘famous’ teas and cakes in the village hall and helpers were required.

The speaker today, was Paul Evans who was truly excellent entertaining us with much laughter with his humorous readings, stories and monologues.

In particular, the one about grandmothers had us in fits, also ‘When I was a lad’.

His accents and manner of delivery was very professional and I am sure we will be seeing and hearing much more from Paul.

Jill went through the Resolutions, with members voting their choice.

The competition was for a blue item, and quite a few members brought a wide variety of items along and gave a brief comment about them.

Our next meeting is on June 13, when Caroline Sanderson will talk about ‘Kiss, Chase & Conkers’, with the competition being ‘My favourite Children’s book’.

Please join us at any of our meetings at 2.15pm in the village hall at Leonard Stanley, everyone is welcome.
