CHALFORD Hill School is competing in a nationwide recycling contest in a bid to win a share of £2,500 in charity prizes.

The primary school is asking people and businesses in Stroud to help them save as many air freshener and home care products as possible from landfill and help them in their efforts to win the 2016 Febreze Freshness Rewards Contest.

The contest is part of a recycling fundraising initiative called the Febreze Air and Home Care Recycling Programme, which enables any brand of air freshener and home care products and packaging to be recycled for the first time.

Stroud News and Journal:

Tricia Watson, PTA recycling fundraiser at Chalford Hill, said: “So far the school has saved 2,742 pieces of waste for recycling.

“We also collect on the McVitie’s Biscuit Wrapper, BIC Writing Instruments, EllaCycle and Kenco Coffee Packaging recycling programmes.

“To date we have raised a total of £1,282.76 with TerraCycle which has been used to help buy a trim trail for the outdoor play area at Chalford Hill School.

“We will continue to recycle after the competition ends, but the next couple of months are crucial to get us into the top five.

“We came 6th in last year’s contest so feel that providing the people of Stroud get behind us we have a really good chance.

“We would like to extend our thanks to the Fish Inn takeaway and Chalford and Sweeping Beauties cleaning company, who have contributed a lot of air freshener and home care waste to our collections this year.

“We are really hoping to inspire other local businesses who use these products to start saving these bits of rubbish to raise funds for school and improve their environmental footprint.

“Please email pta@chalfordhill.gloucs.sch.uk to discuss further – we can usually arrange to collect larger quantities.”

Local people are asked to help Chalford Hill in their attempts by dropping their waste plastic air fresheners and plug-in refills, air and home care product trigger heads, pumps and caps and flexible home cleaning wipe packs of any brand back to collection box in the cafeteria at the Stroud Council Office, Ebley Wharf between the hours of 8.45 am and 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

The contest which runs until July 8 and is run through both private collectors and public drop off locations.

There are £2,500 of charity donations being shared between 12 winners. There is a grand prize of £500 for the top collector administering a public drop off location, and a prize of £250 for the top private collector.

Shipments over 1kg are also credited with a sweepstake ticket, with two lucky sweepstake winners chosen at random at the end of the contest each receiving £125 in charitable donations.
