PLANS for two new classrooms, a kitchen and toilets at Chalford Hill Primary School are open to the public for consultation.

The proposals from Gloucestershire County Council for the single-storey extension would also mean remodelling the school entrance.

Residents can see the application and submit comments at planning.gloucestershire.gov.uk/publicaccess until June 7.

One resident, a retired quantity surveyor, contacted the SNJ to say the designs by, Gloucester-based Heath Avery Architects, were not in keeping with the existing architecture.

John Cox, who lives in Stony Riding near the school, said: “I feel that this extension will obscure a traditional Victorian school building.

“The building is in an AONB and a conservation area. How can such a building be in keeping with the existing buildings?

“We feel that the site is already overdeveloped and this extension is cramming more building mass onto the site to the detriment of the Victorian school.”
