A PHOTO exhibition to raise money for Parkinson’s UK can now go ahead in Stroud, thanks to donations.

Keen amateur photographer Rollo Alderwick, who has Parkinson’s diseases, wanted to stage the event to raise money for the charity which has given him so much support since his diagnosis 20 years ago.

But he needed a venue and some funding to cover the costs of exhibition, which will showcase his photos, largely of wildlife, many taken at Slimbridge Wetland Centre.

Now Rollo, 61, from Uplands, has been able to book nearby All Saints Day Centre for June 11 and 12. The show will be free, open 10am to 6pm, and the proceeds of any sales of photos will go towards the charity.

Venue hire and the costs of framing and displaying his photos are being covered by homecare provider DoCare – which supports Rollo – and Charity Scifi, a fundraising group based in Corsham which over the last eight years has raised more than £100,000 for a variety of good causes.

Rollo said: “I’m really grateful that DoCare and Charity Scifi have offered this help.

“While it’s nice to have my photos on show, the whole point is to raise money for Parkinson’s UK, which have been so supportive.”

Una Mills, DoCare director, said: “We’re more than happy to help Rollo to raise funds for such a fantastic cause.”

Ady Davis, of Charity Scifi, said: “I know Rollo anyway so when I read the newspaper story about him wanting to put on his exhibition we decided to help.”

A father of three and grandfather of six, Rollo turned to photography when he was no longer able to work as a lorry driver and car fitter.
