ON THE row over the sudden clampdown on parking infringements in Bath Road, Stroud.

Posted by Gordon F: The cars parked here don’t cause an obstruction to anyone, if fact it is much less of a problem than if they were all parked on Walkley Hill or even worse on the road in front of the houses during the times allowed. There’s even white lines de-marking the parking area on the pavement..

Posted by Stroud res: The yellow ‘no parking’ line is on the road only, whilst the pavement seems to have a white parking line denoting an area where cars can park leaving a normal sized walkway. Parking here presents no danger to road users or pedestrians and is less disruptive than parking in Bath Road itself after the restriction times. Parking here has long been accepted and even presented as the accepted parking for people when buying houses in the area. It’s a shame tickets were given without prior warning to the residents after such a long time.

Posted by Neil McLaughlin: GCC has actually achieved the opposite of its stated objectives by enforcing the restrictions. Car parking has migrated up Walkley Hill and into the adjoining Court Way causing far more obstructions to traffic than previously existed. I suggest that you walk through the area and carry out an impact assessment on traffic flow and congestion.

Posted by Phyllus Jones: Parking should be much more heavily enforced in Stroud. There now seem to be more cars than people. Terrible air pollution, and cars blocking every street. Walking is one of the best exercises to improve health. Time for people to rationalize whether they really need a car. Public transport is there if it’s needed. So sell the car, switch to the foot-leather express, smell the roses, and add years to your life!!

Posted byStroud res: We walk or cycle everywhere we can but sometimes it isn’t feasible. There are lots of reasons why people may need a car, aside from presumed laziness.
