A CONSERVATIVE district councillor and Leave supporter from Stroud was pelted with eggs as she was walking to her campaign base yesterday.
Cllr Debbie Young, who represents Chalford, was standing outside the Queen Vic pub in Gloucester Street when she was attacked at 5.30pm.
Ms Young, who was wearing a Vote Leave badge at the time, said the eggs must have been thrown from a distance, possibly out of an open window due to the speed at which they thrown.
“The first thing I felt was something flash past the right side of my face,” she said.
“Then about 10 seconds later another egg went flying past me. I looked down and I saw two broken egg shells on the floor.
“I didn’t see who it was but I guess it must have been thrown out of a window. If they had hit me it would really have hurt.
“At first I considered calling the police. But I decided against it.
“I can understand people disagreeing with me, but being violent is too far.
“Plus, it’s a complete waste of fresh eggs.”
Mrs Young and her husband Rob are both active Leave campaigners and regularly write about the referendum on social media.
Before the egging, Mrs Young posted on Twitter: “I've finally discovered why I am #VoteLeave their is a totally intellectual snobbery about #voteremain.”
She also recently took to twitter to condemn the theft of the Vote Leave sings from her garden.
