LEADER of Stroud District Council Steve Lydon said he is “shocked” and “extremely worried” about the country’s future following news of the leave result.
Though the Stroud constituency voted remain, Britain as a whole voted to leave the EU.
Cllr Lydon said of the result: “Shock is the first thing that comes to mind.
“I am extremely worried now about our future. There are clearly many communities that feel left behind and cut off from establishment”
Cllr Lydon suggested many leave voters weren’t aware of the repercussions of their decision.
“I think a lot of people saw it as an opportunity to register their peeved-offness with the establishment. Nobody voted with full knowledge of what the consequences would be,” he continued.
However, despite the doom and gloom of his assessment, Cllr Lydon finished by saying Labour were best situated to reunite the country.
“We will carry on regardless,” he said.
