IT’S been a busy month for Help a Hedgehog, several mothers with babies have been admitted, and orphans whose nests have been disturbed.

Others have come in with injuries requiring care and treatment.

One success against all the odds was the hog with the terrible strimmer injury – Braveheart – who has now been released again into the garden where he was found.

He spent weeks in intensive care and became a celebrity on BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

Another one who is recovering is Archie-bald, found with hardly any spines left, but with medication his spines are making a comeback.

We have also been busy with the fundraising stall at local events and among those we will be attending in July will be Leonard Stanley Village Fair, Stroud Festival of Nature, where we will have our trail around Stratford Park, and Stroud Show.

We hope to see many of our friends at some of these events.

Talks have continued and a special thanks to Minchinhampton Rainbows who raised over £80, including £31 collected in Smartie tubes.

As none of the hospital volunteers takes any expenses all the money raised goes towards the care of the hedgehogs, including vets’ bills, food and equipment and consumables for the four hospitals.

We are also very grateful for the donations of food at talks and in the collection bins at local supermarkets.

So a big thank you to all our supporters.

Please continue to supplement hedgehogs’ natural diet of worms and beetles in this dismal summer, there seems to have been a dearth of insects around this year. They will welcome some meaty or dry cat food and a treat of mealworms.
