ROADS in Stroud will be repaired to stop potholes forming in the winter after Gloucestershire County Council announced a £3.1million investment.

The money will be used to carry out surface repairs which will cover clusters of potholes at a time, and stop further potholes from forming in these locations.

Work will begin this summer on main roads all over the county.

Locations include parts of Gloucester, Cheltenham, Tewkesbury, Stroud, the Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways said, “I’m very pleased to announce this extra £3.1m investment into Gloucestershire’s roads.

"We’ll be using the money to tackle local problem areas and make them more resilient when winter comes, which is when we see most potholes start to form.

“To minimise disruption, a lot of the work will take place over the summer when we see less traffic on our roads, but I’d still like to thank drivers in advance for their patience while we get the improvements done.”

This work is in addition to the existing program of highway improvements and resurfacing, and on top of the council’s recently announced £2m schedule of summer surface dressing which will see more than 44 miles of county roads treated.
