AN ICON of steam blew its whistle as it drew into Stroud train station today.

Railway passengers and locomotive fanatics snapped pictures of Braunton otherwise known as Southern Railway West Country Class locomotive No. 34046.

It came through Stroud at about 12.30pm from London Paddington before making its way to Wales.

Shan Amos took these pictures of Braunton, which was built in 1946 for the Southern Railway at Brighton Works.
