YOU have been giving good coverage of this review of minor injuries and illness units in Gloucestershire.

It is a very important matter for the people of our community.

Could I ask you to draw the attention of our people to this review once again and ask everyone to respond.

The views of local people really matter and will influence the decision made by Gloucestershire Care Services.

There are a number of ways of responding:

  • Using the prepaid card in the consultation booklet, distributed in many health premises around the district, including Stroud General Hospital
  • By visiting www.glos-care.nhs.uk
  • Email miiureview@glos-care.nhs.uk
  • Telephone 0300 421 8100
  • By visiting the Information Bus at 11 King Street, Stroud on Monday, August 22, between 10–11.30am.

The consultation ends on August 31.

At present Stroud General Hospital and Cirencester Hospital open for 24 hours each day, although there has been times when, due to staffing shortages, one of these units has been closed at night.

We are asked to choose from three options:

Option 1. To change the opening hours of all seven Gloucestershire MIIUs to 8am – 8pm

Option 2. To change the opening hours of the MIIUs in Cirencester and Stroud to 8am – 11pm.

Option 3. To change the opening hours of the MIIUs in Cirencester and Stroud to 8am – 11pm, and also the opening hours of either Lydney or the Dilke to 8am – 8pm.

There is not an option in the consultation to keep any of the units open through the night.

Therefore Stroud League of Friends would recommend Option 2 which keeps Stroud General MIIU open from 8am until 11pm.

Ideally we would like to continue opening for 24 hours but if this is unacceptable then at least until midnight.

David Miller, chairman of Stroud Hospital League of Friends
