STUDENTS, staff and parents at Thomas Keble School are celebrating an excellent set of results.

Sixty-three per cent of students achieved five or more GCSEs including English and maths, with early indications suggesting the school performed above the national average.

Pupils achieved above the national level of expected progress in English and maths, with 65 per cent achieving a C or above in both subjects.

Headteacher Julia Maunder said: "We take great pride in being an inclusive comprehensive school and to see students across the full ability range achieve so well is testament to the commitment of our school community in supporting all students to achieve more than they ever thought possible.

"The early indications are that our class of 2016 have performed significantly above the level expected of them based on national data and we are incredibly proud of the way our students have risen to the challenges presented.

"My congratulations go to all our students who have earned such excellent results this year.

"I would also like to acknowledge the hard work of staff and parents in supporting our young people throughout their time with us.

"Our principle of inclusion at Thomas Keble has ensured that all students, regardless of ability, have received widespread and comprehensive support to stretch and challenge their expectations in order to achieve their very best."

Twenty-six per cent of students exceeded the government benchmark of three or more A*/A grades.

From this year, the main government performance measure used to assess a school’s effectiveness moves to a progress based measure, rather than the 5 A-C including English and Maths.

The final figure will not be known until the government releases further data in late September.
