AN OUTSTANDING set of results has been celebrated at Wycliffe in Stonehouse, with three-quarters of all pupils achieving eight grades or more at A*-C.

With the worst ever decline in GCSE results across the nation, Wycliffe, a non-selective school, out-stripped national performance by 15 per cent.

More than 91 per cent of pupils achieved at least five grades at A*-C, including English and maths.

Among the pupils who bagged 10 nine or more A* and A Grades were Eve Gencheva, Alice Dean, Oli Harris, Emily Riley, Erin Lavender, Charlie Pritchard, Thomas Parker, Holly Bankes, Izzy Menendez, Josie Hampson and Jess Telford.

Also in that group were Annie Rees, who combined top performances in drama and music with her six A*s and five A Grades, as well as reaching the National Final of the Speaking Poetry by Heart poetry verse-reading competition and gaining full marks in business and economics, maths, chemistry and physics exams along the way.

Charlotte Greensmith capped a spectacular year, in which she was awarded a Grade 7 with Merit for singing, with ten A*/ A Grades at GCSE.

Kelly Fletcher, who achieved ten A*s, an A and a B, also scored full marks in exams in history, geography, religious studies, chemistry and physics.

In total, sixteen pupils attained full marks in one or more exams, a remarkable achievement.

These were just some of the many in the a year group of just eighty pupils at Wycliffe whose sporting, cultural and artistic performances out of the classroom also put them among the very best in the county, region and even nation.

Adding to the success were the twenty-six pupils in Wycliffe’s Development Year.

These international students spend a year learning English in preparation for A-Levels and undertake the significant trial of studying for GCSEs in just one year, in a second language.

More than half exceeded the five A*-C threshold despite this challenge.

Among best performers were Janet Huang from China who achieved five A*s, two Bs, Ana Herrlein of Germany with three A/A*s and three Bs and Russian Eve Litvinia Evgeniya Litvina who secured five A*s, an A and two Bs.

With GCSE predictions being exceeded again, value-added scores are expected to be very good indeed once full analysis is complete.

Wycliffe’s Head, Nick Gregory said “What is especially pleasing about this excellent set of results is that this particular group of boys and girls are such contributors in all aspects of school life, not purely the academic side of education.

“Many of those named above are also outstanding musicians, singers, actors, sportsmen/women too and have in many cases also taken a lead in raising money for various charitable causes.”
