MAIDENHILL School saw an improved performance on last year’s results, with many pupils achieving their target grades.

Amongst those celebrating were twins Lizzie and Maddy Gloyne, 15, who both achieved the results they needed.

Maddy received five As and five A stars to gain a place at the sixth form at Stroud High School, while Lizzie got the five Cs she needed for a place at SGS College.

The twins, who went to Foxmoor Primary School together, said they would be celebrating together with the rest of their family.

Budding actor Carrick Stimson-Machers, from Cashes Green, was also celebrating after achieving an A* in his favourite subject, drama, and gaining the grades he needed to earn a scholarship to Wycliffe College.

“I have been interested in acting from a young age. Maidenhill has given me a lot of opportunities, including the chance to perform in school shows.”

Unusually the 16-year-old was the first up in his household on results day and said he was pacing up and down at home in the morning.

Pam Wilson, headteacher, said the results had improved from 2015.

“You can see by the smiles this morning that there have been some fantastic results,” she said.

“Results were better than last year and reflect the hard work of pupils, staff and the supportive parents at the school.

“It is fantastic to see pupils leaving with the qualifications they need and also the personal skills as they develop into young adults.”

Early indications suggest the results were better than last year, although the exact figures will not be known until September.
