POLICE have arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of burglary following raids at one pub in Cashes Green and another in Dursley.

The break-in at the Prince of Wales pub in Cashes Green, Stroud, was reported yesterday.

Fruit machines, a juke box and a pool table were smashed to grab cash, and the weekend's takings were also stolen.

Gloucestershire Police officers believe the burglary was linked to a similar break-in at the Yew Tree Inn in Woodfield Road, Dursley, which happened overnight between Sunday and Monday.

Around £3,500 was stolen from a safe at the Yew Tree, and all the fruit machines were smashed open, as well as the pool table and juke box, with the cash inside taken.

Today, a 33-year-old man from the West Midlands was arrested on suspicion of burglary in relation to both offences.

A police spokeswoman said: “We're appealing for the local community or regular customers to the pubs to come forward if they have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area.

"Regardless of how small the information might be, their insight may be vital to our enquiries and may help us to trace those responsible.”
