RESIDENTS and staff of Richmond Painswick Retirement Village enjoyed a day dedicated to celebrating all things British.

Morris Dancers opened the fayre before a speech from the lord lieutenant of Gloucestershire, Dame Janet Trotter.

Following a very British three-course lunch Chris Hall, the son of one of the residents and a very accomplished Tenor Baritone, gave a concert.

Doors then opened to the public for a summer fayre in aid of Age UK with tea and cakes, stalls, ice cream bicycle, face painting, Punch and Judy, raffle, traditional games and more.

The retirement village in Painswick was joint winner of a competition to find the best Richmond Village fayre in the UK.

Susie Oakley, operations director, who announced the winners had the difficult job of judging the competition.

She said: "The second overall winner is Painswick for a non-stop, full-on Best of British Day enjoyed by staff and residents alike.

“There were lots of residents, staff, family and local people and the event was a great success thanks to a lot of effort from the staff.”

Organisers in Painswick congratulated Richmond Village, Nantwich who the Painswick team shared the award with.

“Well done Nantwich,” said a spokesman.
