MONTHS of hard work paid off for volunteers as Stonehouse was awarded a silver gilt in the in Bloom awards.
The town’s in Bloom committee picked up the award at a special ceremony as Stonehouse went one better than last year.
Gary Powell, chairman of the committee, said: “We are very happy. We have had some tremendous feedback from people in the town this year.
“There are always some things you can improve and we will start looking at that as we prepare for next year’s entry.
“I would like to thank all of the businesses and shops for their donations and support over the months.”
Last year Stonehouse was awarded a silver on its first entry into the Heart of England Britain in Bloom awards for 11 years.
The silver gilt is the second highest award possible, with gold the highest accolade.
Stonehouse Court Hotel, which also entered for the first time under the hotels and pubs category this year, also won a silver.
Preparations will soon be starting for next year’s entry.
Heart of England in Bloom aims competitions aim to transform communities by making them greener and cleaner, and creating a sense of pride in the area.
Dursley was this year awarded a gold award for its efforts, and member of the in Bloom committee Ronnie Harding thanked the late Malcolm Tarling – former chairman of Stroud in Bloom – for his gardening tips.
