Evesham 44

Cainscross 21

Cainscross made the long trip up the M5 to play Evesham.

The game started brightly with Evesham showing their power play intent and Cainscross sniping and using their pace around the fringes.

Evesham scored first after some sound interplay and the conversion was followed by a penalty.

Cainscross pushed deep into Evesham territory with the spritely Laurence Coates proving the catalyst to much of Cainscross play, this was until he was struck by injury, the game stopped whilst emergency services were called and the game moved to another pitch.

This led to a big shuffle for Cross who ended up with veteran Richard Stonebridge playing out of position at scrum-half. The enforced break disrupted Cross hugely leaking a further 22 points before the break.

Stern words from captain Carter were more than just effective as a completely different side emerged.

Defiant defence by Cross repelled a number of attacks from Evesham with Rice continuing his fine form in defence, but this time more than ably assisted by the superb Jack Young who spearheaded Cainscross defence with huge hit after huge hit.

Cross set up camp in the Evesham 22 with wave-after-wave of attacks before Pollard barrelled over for his first of the season, conversion hit.

Evesham hit back with a converted try of their own.

Cainscross hit back almost immediately with their offloading game showing the style and intensity they are looking to play, Young took a superb line off of Carter, handed off two defenders before stepping around the full- back to score under the posts, conversion scored.

Carter continued his benevolence to the opposition as his clearance was charged down for a score out wide, conversion missed.

With minutes left in the game Cross could have kicked the ball out, but decided to have one more crack at showing their intent.

Great interplay between backs and forwards saw Cross earn a penalty near Evesham line, scrum called Carter ghosted through the gap to see them finish on the up, conversion scored by Pollard.

Star Man: Jack Young.
