PICKLED eggs made in Stroud were part of a world record attempt in London.

As part of a comedy night at Howling Hops Brewery in Hackney, 150 contestants attempted to set a world record by eating pickled eggs simultaneously.

“This involved everyone in the room eating a pickled egg at the same time,” said a spokesman for the pub.

Before the mass egg eating contest commenced he said to visitors: “If you don’t like pickled eggs, please eat one anyway.

“If you are pickled egg virgin, now is your time to try.”

Purely Pickled Eggs, based in Salmon Springs Trading Estate, was the firm behind the challenge on Wednesday, September 21.

Director Sue Tyley said: “Excitement mounted as the game of egg roulette was explained which meant People didn’t know the flavour of pickled egg that they were about to eat – it could be garlic, cider, beetroot, scotch bonnet chilli or plain.

“The moment came for everyone to devour their egg and a roomful of eggs were held aloft.

“Now pickled eggs have always evoked a love them or hate them reaction and while most people proceeded to down their egg whole heartedly and even asked for more, when the moment arrived not everyone could bring themselves to eat the egg.

“So without a confirmed number of pickled egg eaters, a world record eluded us, this time but pickled egg history for shared pickled egg eating was definitely made.”
