ONE of the SNJ’s longest readers has celebrated his 95th birthday.
Percy Reginald Brownjohn - who has been buying the paper every week since the sixties - marked the special day on Saturday, September 24.
Mr Brownjohn is well-known for his vintage Morris Minor, which he has owned for over 50 years and calls his ‘Blue Bird’.
He lives in a cottage in Summer Street that he build with his own hands after marrying his wife Rudy in 1948.
Having lived in Stroud his whole life and fought in the Second World War, the pensioner has seen a lot of changes to the Five Valleys during his lifetime.
“From my little cottage up here I’ve seen a lot of things change in the area over the years,” he said.
“For me though, birthdays seem to come and go when you are this old. Each is the same as the last.
“I think I’ve got a few more years left in me yet though – who knows maybe I’ll make it all the way to 100.”
Percy and Rudy were married at the Stroud Parish Church and lived together happily for more than 60 years until her death.
