A POPULAR mum has been remembered by children and staff at a school in Haresfield.

Pupils and staff came together at Haresfield Primary School to take part in the Haresfield Half today to raise money for Macmillan nurses who supported much-loved mum Gemma Treglia through her fight with cancer.

They also held took part in the Macmillan coffee morning to raise money for the charity which supports people affected by the disease.

Speaking on behalf of staff and governors at the school, head teacher Rachel Bacon said: "Our school is like a family and in the summer we had very sad news that one of our lovely mums had died following a long fight with cancer.

"Gemma was a very special lady and during the last few months of her life was cared for by the Macmillan nurses enabling her family to enjoy their time with her by taking some of the burden.

"The rest of the school family wanted to show our appreciation and celebrate Gemma's life so we decided to have this sponsored event to raise money.

"Gemma was part of the school family and will sadly missed."

Children and staff had been training for several weeks for the race which they completed in fancy dress.

They all received a medal and a cake after completing the race.

Gemma's son, Joshua, aged eight, also took part.

Mrs Bacon added: "It was a fantastic day and I would like to thank all of the children and parents for helping to raise money.

"It was amazing how well they all did."

Money raised is still being counted.
