IT’S been three years in the oven but a baker in Stonehouse has won a top industry award at a ceremony in London.

The last two years have seen Dom Salter of SALT Bakehouse make the top three shortlisted entrants for the Baking Industry Awards and this year he was selected again.

Only this time his dough has risen to the occasion making Dom, who has been in the business for 12 years, Baker of the Year 2016.

“Winning this award means so much to me and the business, I am just totally over the moon,” said Dom, who was hosted by the sponsors of his award Brook Foods.

“You can’t get much better than Baker of the Year.

“It’s been a tough year for the family as I lost my father in December and I want to dedicate my award to him.”

The 30-year-old from Stroud also owns a bakery called The Sandwich Box in Cheltenham along with his mother, Annette, and sister, Anneliese Varley.

While Dom heads up the baking in Stonehouse supplying bread to pubs and restaurants in the district, Anneliese runs The Sandwich Box and Annette oversees the firm.

Annette said: “The loss of my husband could have spelt the end of the business as we were obviously devastated but it just spurred Dominic even more.

“I am extremely proud of his achievement.”

Dom’s win was announced at London’s Park Lane Hilton Hotel on September 7.
